커피회사 스타벅스(Starbuck) 별사슴 로고는 참 묘함. 이성과 마비의 만남. 율리시즈와 사이렌의 만남.
Herman Melville의 허구소설 Moby-Dick(백경, 흰 고래 白鯨 1851.) 스타벅은 일등 항해사, 이성(理性)을 잃지 않으려 하고, 아합(Ahab)은 집착에 매달리는 선장으로 설정하여 인생관을 묘사해간다.
작가는 나레이터 이스마엘(Ishmael)을 통해 정의를 찾으려는 욥(Job)과 진리를 찾으려는 외디푸스(Oedipus)를 만나게 함.
※욥: 내가 부자된 게 무슨 죄가 되냐? 그럼 정의란 건 뭐냐?
※외디푸스: 나는 자랑하지 않았다. 인간으로써 나는 충실했는데 내가 왜 죄를 지었나? 그럼 진리가 뭐냐? 아무도 아르쳐주지 않은 내 운명이 어떻게 하늘을 진노하게 합니까? 이 건 인간이 남을 희생시키려고 덤테기 씌우는 인간이 빚은 죄악이 아닌가?
우연인지 몰라도 그 라인강변의 로렐라이 전설적 노래는 그리스 신화♣ 등장하는 요정 사이렌(Siren)은 자궁이 막혀 남자에게 주지도 못하는 석녀(石女※¹) 인어들.
요정은 인간의 밥이 아님. 요정 에코는 나르시서스에게, 99년 된 구미호는 남정네 몫이 아님. 그러므로 사이렌은 인간 오디시우스의 몫이 아님. 가까히 하면 죽음뿐.
그 사이렌의 거처는 지중해 '그리스, 시실리, 이태리와 칼타고'를 네 점으로 하는 사각형 안쪽 Mare Tyrrhenum 바다 Carybdis 암초.
스타벅은 이성을 잃지마라고 외친다.
여기에 흰구름(白雲) 아래 푸른 초장 못(靑草塘) 옆으로 걸어 가는 소(牛步) 김학천(金鶴天)이 그 상반된 사이렌과 스타벅을 절묘하게 조화시킨 게 인간성 두 가지 얼굴 스타벅스의 로고같단다. 참 좋은 느낌. 추측이지만 동감한다.
탈레랑 말대로 커피의 본능은 유혹. 와인보다 달콤하고 부그러운 맛은 키스보다 달콤하고,
